Reflections on an Excellent Competition Experience

I enjoyed my time at Harvest Moon! It's always good to get out on the floor in front of judges to perform the dances we work so hard on in practice. I can't thank Peter and Yulia enough for opening the floor to collegiate dancers, as well as running an engaging program and event. As a team, the University of Minnesota acquitted itself nicely, representing ourselves and collegiate dancing at a big NDCA event. Harvest Moon is on my calendar for next year.

What better way to spend a weekend than in the fabulous city of Chicago, dancing the days away? Peter Minkov and Yulia Kornilova, the two brilliant professionals out of Chicago that run the Harvest Moon Ball, were gracious enough to invite the University of Minnesota team over for one unforgettable weekend. Looking back after we'd finished, their competition was incredibly bright, clean, full of energy, and well coordinated. All of their volunteers were well trained and unimaginably friendly. An excellent first impression has been made, and I'd be excited to participate again, partially, of course, because our team performed so well in this competition—with participants on the podium in virtually all events—but mostly because of the warm and hospitable care we received.

For Harvest Moon, I played the part of team mom—in other words, I didn't actually compete over the weekend, but I did cheer on my teammates and got to be part of the excitement of the competition. It never ceases to amaze me, the kind of energy that surrounds dancesport competitions. All the beautiful people in their hair, makeup, and dazzling dresses are always a welcome sight, but seeing it all in action is the best part of it all. This completion was wonderful, and one that I would love to compete in in the coming year. Look out, Harvest Moon Ball; you'll have a new competitor on the dance floor next year!
