Picture Yourself Prepared

By Jana Rose Merten

Picture this. You're at your next DanceSport event. You've been preparing for months, maybe even years. But are you fully prepared?

Amazing, sparkly costume? Check! Dance partner? Check! Hours of training, coaching and practice? Double check! Hair and makeup? Hair and makeup?

Proper grooming is a fundamental element in creating your best performance. When you look great, you feel great, and it shows in your dancing. After all, dance is an aesthetic art, and appearance is incredibly important!

As soon as we are visible to our audience or judging panel, we are leaving an impression, setting an expectation. Think about it. When you are observing an event or competition as a spectator, what captures your attention first? Most likely it is the best groomed couple. We can tell they take their appearance seriously, so they must take their dancing seriously. This is why we really should be taking our performance look seriously as well. We invest so much time and attention to detail in our training, we wouldn't want to fall short when it comes to grooming.

Clean, professional hair and makeup designed specifically for your costume and style of dance is an irreplaceable asset. It is also an extension of your creativity, personality and personal expression!

As a dance instructor, I noticed that we were failing to properly educate dancers in performance hair and makeup, and began offering classes, workshops, and consultations.

A standard updo is not designed to withstand the force of a fast turn. Your daily makeup routine will not be able to translate your expression from across the floor. There are specific techniques we need to employ to ensure you can dance with confidence, and be certain that you look amazing. That is where I come in!

I have been working in the exciting world of DanceSport for over 10 years and I am passionate about sharing, educating and supporting our fantastic dance community. From private lessons and workshops, to hair and makeup services, and photography, I keep very busy having a lot of fun.

If you feel it is time to take your DanceSport grooming to the next level, or you would like to learn more about the services I offer, please don't hesitate to get in touch. If I have already had the pleasure of working with you in the past, remember that I am available to help you look your best for your next competition or performance!
